Buy Pilsner beer in cans online at Dosenmatrosen.de

Discover a wide selection of different types of Pilsner in cans in our shop. If you've been wondering whether Pilsner in a can is a good choice for you, here are a few facts and advantages summarised:

 1. Origin and history
  • Origin: Pilsner originates from the city of Pilsen (Plzeň) in Bohemia, now part of the Czech Republic.
  • Invention: Pilsner was first brewed in 1842 by Josef Groll, a master brewer from Bavaria.
  • Innovation: It was the first beer to be brewed with bottom-fermenting yeast at low temperatures.
2. Characteristics of Pils Colour:
Mostly straw yellow to golden yellow, with a crystal-clear appearance.
  • Taste: Dry, hoppy and slightly bitter. Often with a fresh and tangy finish.
  • Alcohol content: Typically between 4.5% and 5.2% ABV.
  • Aroma profile: Notes of herbs, grass, flowers and sometimes citrus fruits, depending on the type of hops used.

3. What ingredients make a Pilsner?
  • Water: Soft water is ideal for the typical taste.
  • Barley malt: Gives the beer its malt base.
  • Hops: Mostly noble aroma hops such as Saaz, Hallertau or Tettnanger, which provide the characteristic bitterness and aroma.
  • Yeast: Bottom-fermenting yeasts that work at low temperatures.

4. Brewing process
  • Bottom-fermented brewing method: Fermentation at temperatures of 4–9 °C, which ensures clear aromas.
  • Storage: Pilsner is often stored for longer (several weeks) to achieve a particularly pure taste.

5. Typical types of pilsner
  • Czech Pilsner: Full, slightly sweet taste (e.g. Tyskie).
  • German Pilsner: Dry, more hoppy (e.g. Hasseröder, Beck's).
  • Scandinavian Pilsner types: Mild, malty character (e.g. Falcon or Tuborg)

6. Advantages of canned lager
In general, the various types of canned pilsner offer numerous advantages: They stay fresh longer because the can seals the beer airtight and protects it from UV light, optimally preserving taste and quality. Cans cool faster, are break-proof and ideal for on the go. They are also environmentally friendly because they are almost completely recyclable and save space during storage and transport. Thanks to their robustness and better protection against external influences, they offer the perfect combination of freshness, safety and sustainability.

Browse through our wide range of pilsners and find your favourite, whether it's a refreshing Carlsberg in a 0.33 litre can or the Czech Tyskie with its outstanding taste.
